Assoutudeen Abu Mubaashir!
🎥 A holistic approach to every matter is always better to be looked with synchronous synchronizations. An adage says, Fools rush in where angels fear to tread which practically means inexperienced people act in situations where intelligent people would avoid.
It is so terrible and pathetically saddened that many muslims follow their desires at the expense of Allah’s command concerning some rulings on photography. The challenges many Muslims face today, most especially the youths, has enviably jettisoned the true existence of living in reality. You will see brethren snapping themselves at different occasions, events, activities and so on! Even though, many of these occasions are still faulty when critically looked as regards the point of Sharia.
Commensurately, knowing fully that snapping of pictures/images has different diversified opinions among scholars, in which the majority of them are of the opinion that it is forbidden except when Doruuroh (makeshifts) are called for. Let’s have an assumption that it is even allowed to snap pictures/images and post on social media, won’t the rate at which people (youths) snap pictures made it to be forbidden ❓ Another adage says, Give someone an inch and they will take a mile (or yard). Give someone enough rope and they will hang themselves.
Using some modern-day contemporary scholars who allude the permission of snapping anything anyhow is not enough for you as a piece of evidence to justify yourself. At least, Allah has endowed us all with intellectual faculty❗
My dear brothers and sisters, If I may ask you the reason why you upload your pictures, your answer may be just to catch fun or perhaps make people complement how handsome/beautiful you are.
When will you safe yourself from the evil eye❓ Do you think everyone who complements you do love you❓ Don’t you know that those who sincerely love you among them can still be the source of your tribulations without them knowing❓ You said how?
📚 Muslim narrated that Ibn Abaas( Radi Allaho Anh) reported that the Messenger of Allah Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam said: “The evil eye is true, and if there is anything that would precede pre-destination, it would be the evil eye”. (Sahih Muslim)
Apart from this, during the time of the prophet, two companions who love each other as brothers complement each other’s beauty while bathing which later cause commotion in the life of the other companion.
📚 Imam Malik narrated that Amir bin Rabee’ah( Radi Allaho Anh )once saw Sahl bin Hunaif take a bath and said, “By Allah! I have never observed the skin of a person that is softer than what I have just seen”. Sahl fell to the ground. Prophet Muhammad( Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) then came to Amir while angry and said to him: “Why would one of you kill his own brother? Why have you not said Tabarak Allah, (may Allah bless it) ? Take a bath for it”. Amir then washed his face, hands, elbows, knees, feet and a part of his garment in a pot for what he had done and then poured the used water on Sahl. Soon after, Sahl started moving about with the people. [Ibn Majah, Ahmad].
Sahl (A sohaaba for that matter ) fell to the ground just because another companion appreciates his beauty while bathing. How much more you and I that are not up to their level upload our beautiful pictures/images on social media❓ Reflect❗❗❗
📚 In another Athar Al-Baghawi narrated that once Usman (Radi Allaho Anh ) saw a handsome boy and commanded, “Blacken his chin so that the evil eye does not touch him”.
Meanwhile, Al-Khattabi narrated in Gharib ul Hadith, “It was narrated that Usman (Radi Allaho Anh) once saw a handsome boy and that he said, “Hide his left chin with black color”. Usman Radi Allaho Anh wanted to hide the left chin of the handsome boy using black color so that he was not touched by the evil eye.
Subhaanllah! How many Muslim youths most especially womenfolk have caused a lots of fitnah (trials, tribulations, etc) with their beauty while gyrating and tauting on social media as if they have entered Paradise ❓ Truly, many women observe their physical hijab but only few observes the hijab of bashfulness. Your beauty is nothing but a test from your Lord, Will you pass or fail it?
Many Muslims have become lions of the desert by causing themselves ill luck, bad luck, undue test, tribulations, problems and what have you! All in the name of I need to celebrate my birthday, my nikkah must be the talking point in the town, my convocation must be a memorable one, my aqeeqoh (naming ceremony) must portray the true habit of dynamic dynasty, some will even snap their new born babies on social media and use it as their WhatsApp status. We are now in a world such that evil things and good things have all become “snappables” as pictures online.
We have recorded many serious cases in our foundation (APMF) that are attributed to jinn all in the name of pictures/images making. At least, if it is hard for you to fear Allah, kindly fear evil eye❗
The worst aspect of this so-called photography is that it causes small idolatry (showing off) as far as worship is concerned. Hear me right and read me well, I am in no position to judge the heart of a Muslim whether he/she shows off or not, but why will a Muslim keep snapping himself while praying, supplicating, performing hajj, breaking fast, reciting Qur’an and all other forms of worship❓
Is it to convey daàwah? If your answer is yes, then I beg you to snap yourself while performing ritual bath or having intercourse with your partner, put it online so that some Muslims youths may know how perform ghusl (ritual bath) and as well be encouraged to get married because of your bed experience (Iro lasan)❗
The best minds in every nation do not dispute the fact that the evil eye is true, although they differ on its causes and true effects. Some people say that when people who touch others by the evil eye feel evilness in their hearts, then their eyes transform the evil thoughts into harmful rays just like the type of snake that looks at its prey and causes it to perish. Another group says that it is possible that invisible powers emanate from the person who touches others with the evil eye and then enters the body of the person whom they touched and harms them.
Inadvertently, evil eye has nothing to do with whether your face is shown or not. The envious person might be blind, yet when something is described to him or her, his envious soul affects the described object and harms it even though the blind person cannot see it.
Allah said to His Messenger :
وَإن يَكَادُ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُواْ لَيُزْلِقُونَكَ بِأَبْصَارِهِمْ لَمَّا سَمِعُواْ الذِّكْرَ
“And verily, those who disbelieve would almost make you slip with their eyes (through hatred) when they hear the Reminder (the Quran)” (Surah Al Qalam 68:51). If evil eye can affect the best of mankind and some companions, who am I to just snap and upload my pictures online just for fun without any necessity ❓
ويُذكر عن جابر يرفعه: “إنَّ العَيْنَ لتُدْخِلُ الرجُلَ القَبْرَ، والجَمَلَ القِدْرَ”.
Narrated by Jabir Bin Abdullah Radi Allaho Anh, “The Evil Eye can take a person into grave (can cause death), & takes the camel into the cooking pot (meaning death)”. ( Abu Naheem in the book called Hilyatuli Aoliyaah 90/7 and tahreek bagdaadi 244/9)
Finally, snapping thousands of pictures/photographs on a memorable event never make it uniquely memorable and will never make you popular in the people’s heart. What should be considered memorable in any occasion is to follow the dictates of the Sharia even when you get nothing to lose.
It requires unquantifiable steadfastness encapsulated with indomitable contentment for a Muslim to follow the rulings of photography. Is there any Doruuroh (makeshift) that will allow you to upload your pictures/images on social media when you’re not declared wanted nor kidnapped❓ Have you prepare a reply to give Allah if He should ask you about taking pictures on the day of judgement❓ Reflect and stop following people out of self desires because we shall all stand separately before Allah❗
Note: This write up doesn’t make the writer complete nor perfect but just to call us sincerely to the way of Allah as we are all striving to be better Muslims. May almighty Allah make us better Muslims. (Aameen)
And Allah knows best.
